在形成锁状联合时，若子代凸起没有和母体细胞融合，则形成假锁状联合，它可以看作是菌丝在隔膜处形成的短分支，甚至有时这样的短分支可以发育成另一根菌丝。
金针菇中有两个独立的交配型位点基因控制其交配过程，称为HD与PR。对金针菇的研究表明，若在初级菌丝中过表达HD-a亚位点中的FvHd-a1-1基因或HD-b亚位点的FvHd-b1-2基因，都可以诱导还没有发生交配的初级菌丝产生假锁状联合，而交配则能激活PR途径，使其转化成真正的锁状联合。说明HD、PR基因参与了锁状联合的形成。
